FAQs

What kinds of things can we ask of the EDC?

In general, you should ask us to help, partner, or lead any effort around improving health and wellbeing, particularly related to the pandemic.

You can ask us to work with you on things that help solve some of the urgent challenges related to COVID-19 and how it affects our people, our communities, and our healthcare system. Ask us to tackle complex systems problems or discrete challenges. Ask us to work on making an existing solution more human, more desirable. Ask us to help shape a tech or process solution to be usable, even desirable or delightful.

What does the EDC mean by design?

Is that like websites or graphics? While our community does have some incredible user interface and artistic talents, those may not be the best ways to tap into us (although we’re certainly open to exploring it with you). When we talk about design, we mean using a set of proven methods to deeply understand the needs of people involved in a challenge while simultaneously solving for sustainability and feasibility. This results new opportunities for solving challenges and ways to test those solutions quickly to find what works best for everyone involved. It is a fast, iterative, creative, and people-driven process.

What makes a good fit?

  • Something that starts with a human centered challenge or need

  • Things with the aim of improving lives and wellbeing, particularly around the COVID-19 crisis

  • A shared commitment to a human centered design approach

  • A partner with an intention to deploy, use, or scale the output of our work together

Are we contracting with the EDC or its members?

When it makes sense, we are interested in more formal partnerships which ensure support of our members, impact of the solutions, and the sustainability of the EDC.

Some partnerships are simply ways to share resources, learnings, and ideas. For funded opportunities, we start with ensuring fit and team and then decide, together, the best course of action.

Does a partnership constitute a legal arrangement? Not necessarily. In fact, many may simply be a good faith agreement to work together on a shared goal with a sense of urgency. We will, however, ask that both parties (and their representatives, members, etc) agree to indemnify one another against legal action for malfeasance or unintentional harm.
