FOCUS AREAS: PPE, Face Masks, Do It Yourself

The CDC officially recommended that everyone should wear a simple cloth face mask. With official clinical supplies in urgently short supply, the EDC has recommendations for simple homemade designs.

WHY WEAR A MASK?

When we cough or sneeze we release tiny droplets into the air. Those droplets can linger for up to 30 minutes. Wearing a mask greatly reduces the number of droplets and the distance they can travel.

In short: when I wear a mask, I’m protecting you. When you wear a mask, you’re protecting me. Let’s protect each other.

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE HOUSEHOLD MATERIALS?

Use this table to help guide your efforts depending on the supplies you have at your disposal.
This data is based on particles of approximately 23nm in size. The current corona virus which causes COVID-19 has been identified to be larger, ranging from 70-90nm

VIDEO GUIDES

Bryan Wolf, and the Wolf Design Group, have created an effective design for a mask anyone can make with some basic materials. To assist those who appreciate a visual guide along with a template, Bryan created a video guide.

PROJECT FOLLOW UP

Eric Manalansan has shared a video of his experiences following the guide which also proves useful in visualizing the template and guide.

We invite and welcome your experiences in testing and using these. If you make a version, please share the results!
